Paying With Your PIN: A New Feature of Your Debit Card
You’ve probably used your ATM/debit card to get cash at an ATM, using your secret four-digit Personal Identification Number (PIN) to link your card with your account. It’s convenient, fast and secure.
Now you can pay for purchases the same way! Many retailers, including grocery stores, gas stations and others, offer PIN-secured debit card purchases. You just swipe your card, enter your PIN and you’re done. You don’t even need to sign a receipt.
This new feature is made possible by our participation in the STAR® Network, which provides nationwide access to more than 2 million ATM and retail locations across the U.S.
And here’s another great benefit of PIN-secured debit: You can get cash back at many retailers, so you can avoid an extra trip to the ATM or the branch. That feature is not available when you sign your name to complete the transaction, just as you do with a credit card.
By adding PIN-secured payment capabilities, we are responding to many consumers who feel that PIN payments are an easier, faster and more secure way to pay. The important thing is that you have the choice to use your debit card the way you want, based on your needs and preferences.
